EDM Challenge #5

No fancy headboard. No fancy spread or sheets. I have a pretty basic bed - can't have my art supplies and fancy furniture so now you know which I chose!

Challenge number five is to draw your bed. I started out with a partial pencil sketch and then switched to watercolor pencil. My idea was to then move on to some ink and wetting the watercolor. I could still do that - what do you think?

One of my dogs jumped up with her toy and changed the whole bed too much for me to finish but I think it's okay this way - except, do I add the pen and water?

  1. Well, I love the drawing the way it is. Maybe try another subject with watercolor pencils and washes?

  2. Hi, Timaree!
If it were mine I would have to apply water because it's just so much fun to see how it enlivens the color. But in the end, it has to be your decision. It looks great like it is, anyway!

  5. If you can - RESTRAIN YOURSELF - this looks great as is - (I have self control issues and often ruin what I like)

  8. Thanks everyone for your comments. I think I will leave well enough alone then. Mary O., I agree the water adds so much color but all my lines are done with the watorcolor pencils so they'd disappear mostly under the water although ink would help them show up. Kathleen, I don't think I have as much a self-control issue as much as a boredom issue. I can focus only a short length of time on details before I get nervous with it and have to "escape" it.

  9. Well, I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I'm glad you decided to leave it alone. I think it's lovely just as it is.

  10. This is really good! I like it just the way it is. You might want to copy it and then do water and ink, just a thought. Marva

  11. Its a very nice drawing. At least you've photographed it if you do decide to paint! Thanks for your comment on my blog, folding sketchbook...

  12. Love the work you're doing here :- )

What I find ironic is that I have the patience required to sew a billion little seed beads onto a quilt but I do not have the patience to draw. Go figure.

  13. Hiya,

I don't think you need the ink and water. I like seeing all the folds in the fabric as you have them now and the water might soften the edges too much. But that's just my opinion. Very good drawing. Oh and thanks for all your comments on my blog!

  14. Timaree,
I like the colors. As far as what to do with it I would have no clue. The last time I used water color was when I was in grade school. I think it looks great.
By the way I love the drawings you did of your animals.

  15. I like this, getting different value levels is always a torture for me, but you've done it with ease.

  16. Great bed sketch and you have your priorities straight--art supplies and pets before fancy bed stuff!

  17. I like your bed, and I love that you did not tidy it up before drawing it! I am drawing my bed today and I can not decide if I am going to leave it or tidy up.

    Take care
