Fake Journal - Page Five

Today's fake thing is my plastic flower pot I got from Wal-Mart this year. It looks like ceramic but it isn't. I went for it because of the price and the hope that I could move it if necessary once it was full of dirt.

Hopefully my tomato plant will take hold. The first one didn't as the wind bent it in half. I'm going to get a tomato cage for this next time I go to town. I don't think they are fake yet but they have reduced the number of rings to 3 and I seem to remember 4 years ago.

This is ink and gouache. I like how the gouache covers the background mostly. I'm not using it so thick as to hide all the ink or background but it's not totally transparent either. If you haven't tried the gouache I would recommend it for your tool arsenal.

  1. Walmart stuff...who doesn't love it? ^^ Looks good all the time but a fraction of what you would pay for elsewhere.
Love the color combination here, makes the whole subject radiate like a hot metal! =)

  2. Hi, thanks for the visit. I have tried to translate the recepie, but I think I have to work hard on my baking english *lol*

Love your drawings! But what is a "fake journal`? I have seen others write about it but I never understood what it means....?

  3. What a great idea for a fake journal -- "fake" things! I love your drawing and the fact that you used gouache, my favorite medium. Good luck with your tomato plant. Maybe down the road we'll be able to see a page from one of your journals with "real" tomatos.

  6. I hope your tomato plant lives this time :)

I would very much like to try gouache, I have no Idea how to work with it, but I keep reading about it, so it might be about time.

Nice sketch, and it looks like your are having lots of fun with your fake journal.

  7. Yes the background is amazing! One day I will try gouache. (First I need to learn to spell it without looking every time.)

  9. Yep, gotta love those light-weight pots. I don't give a fig that they're fake! Lovely little journal entry - very nice choice of colors.... I'm with Dan - need to learn how to spell it before I buy it (I always forget the "o"). nancy

  11. I like this! I love the background. I agree...gouache is a good tool; I like how the white goauche can cover up areas and add the whites back - I like the opacity! Great sketch!
